Over the last century, buildings have evolved and benefited from wave after wave of technology: electrification, mechanical cooling, computerized digital controls, LED lighting, and on-site renewables. Each wave brought new promises and new efficiencies, but also new costs and new compliance requirements. AI is the latest wave, but the underlying challenge remains the same: How do facility and energy professionals evaluate what's worth adopting, when to act, and how to stay ahead in an industry that's constantly evolving?
This panel brings together facility and energy pros to have an honest, practical conversation about what's working, what may be overhyped, and what the next wave of technology adoption really means for building performance and operations.

Your reporting is only as good as the bills behind it. Over the past year, we have rebuilt much of the journey a bill takes through EnergyCAP: catching bad and duplicate files the moment they arrive, showing you exactly how every bill was retrieved and processed, and tuning audits so flags mean something. In this session, we will walk the full pipeline (capture, batches, processing, audits) and demo what's new, including the Problem Files workspace, duplicate bill detection, retrieval and processing method tracking, quieter and smarter audits, and enhancements to our processing engine and reporting. You will leave knowing what changed and how it improves your data quality day to day.

If a large local government can simplify its utility management with EnergyCAP, so can you. Fairfax County, Virginia is transitioning from complex third-party processes to directly managing energy and utility data with EnergyCAP. In this session, we’ll walk through how Fairfax County decided to transition bill pay vendors, the stakeholders that were engaged, and how moving to EnergyCAP BillPAY services created streamlined data entry, auditing, and reporting processes.
This presentation demonstrates a comprehensive, data-driven approach to identifying, implementing, and verifying the impact of energy efficiency projects using EnergyCAP. We began by leveraging EnergyCAP’s benchmarking capabilities to analyze Energy Use Intensity (EUI) across a portfolio of buildings, enabling a clear comparison of performance and the identification of energy‐intensive outliers. From this analysis, we selected a priority facility for deeper evaluation and project development. Retro-commissioning then took place, and identified deficiencies were corrected. EnergyCAP tracked consumption and cost data, performed cost avoidance analysis, and verified post-project energy savings, to validate return-on-investment (ROI). The integrated use of EnergyCAP from initial facility selection through validation provided a transparent, defensible methodology for demonstrating project effectiveness and financial payback.

Technology in the energy industry is evolving at an incredible pace. Artificial intelligence, automation, and advanced analytics are now embedded in almost every aspect of utility bill management and energy data processing. Powerful platforms can ingest massive volumes of data, flag anomalies, identify errors, and surface opportunities faster than ever before. But technology alone doesn’t deliver outcomes. People do.
This session explores how advanced utility bill management software like EnergyCAP becomes significantly more powerful when paired with an experienced energy consulting team. While modern software can detect billing inconsistencies, unusual usage patterns, and cost spikes, it still requires expertise, context, and strategy to turn those insights into real savings and measurable progress toward energy goals.
We’ll discuss how energy consultants work alongside software to translate data into action—reviewing flagged anomalies, validating errors, negotiating with utilities and suppliers, and implementing practical strategies that reduce costs and risk. Beyond real-time monitoring, we’ll also show how historical bill analysis can uncover years of past billing errors. In many cases, these recoveries result in refunds that directly offset the cost of implementing and maintaining energy management software.
Attendees will gain a clear understanding of why the future of energy management isn’t software or consultants—but both working together. By combining advanced analytics with experienced human oversight, organizations can achieve deeper savings, stronger accountability, and long-term energy and sustainability goals with confidence.
